Audience K-3 Poems that incorporate movement can help younger children “get the wiggles out” and can ease the stress that older children feel—preparing everyone for a better learning experience. Poet Janet Wong will share a wide variety of poems that make us feel more joyful and alive, while also touching on topics across the curriculum, from science and math to social studies and language arts instruction. My Key Take Aways: Voices of JusticeI attended WSRA's October 14 Voices for Justice Academy on October 14. I was so impressed with the line-up of speakers and variety of important conversations about race, equity, community, social justice, writing, and overall just empowering ourselves and our students. Here are some of the ideas that I took from just TWO of the day’s presentations.

In the Academy, you will see all of the monthly academies available for Raising Our Voices: Empowering All Learners Today to Change the World Tomorrow. 
In the Academy Month block, you will see a button like this one. 
When in the Academy, click the DETAILS button to navigate into the Academy Day or Young Voices Virtual Field Trip for which you're registered. You will find all of the sessions and the Zoom links to the broadcasts in each Academy Day. Watch for a reminder email to arrive 24 hours before your Academy Day or Field Trip. A second reminder email will be delivered 30 minutes before the start time. If you unsubscribe from the Contact Center, you will not receive these emails. Field Trip registrants may pass on the Zoom link to their colleagues (K-3 or 3-6) in their school who are attending the field trip. Those connected colleagues will then share their screens to their students who will attend the field trip. See you there!

Liza Wiemer, (author of The Assignment) and Baptiste Paul, (author of various picture books including Adventures to School, I Am Farmer, and The Field) are presenting "Upstanders: Helping Students Speak Up Against Injustice And Hate" in WSRA's October Voices for Justice Academy. The Voices for Justice Academy is the first of nine Monthly Academies for WSRA's virtual conference, "Raising Our Voices: Empowering All Learners Today to Change the World Tomorrow".
WSRA is known for its world-class conference that typically is held annually in February. With your health and safety in mind, WSRA’s Online Literacy Learning Academy is the location for WSRA’s virtual conference from October 14, 2020 to June 23, 2021. The twice-monthly academies for “Raising Our Voices: Empowering All Learners Today to Change the World Tomorrow” is an incredibly wise investment in your professional learning journey. With the complete series, registrants have the opportunity to participate in 54 sessions. (This is not at all possible at an in-person event.)
But, there is no need to wait for March. Here’s why… When you register for the complete series for Raising Our Voices: Empowering All Learners Today to Change the World Tomorrow, you have access to all of the LIVE and RECORDED sessions from October to June. This session in the March Liberating Voices Academy is already up in WSRA’s Online Literacy Learning Academy. Log in with your username and password at www.wsra.org Navigate to the Literacy Learning Academy in the main menu of the WSRA website. Click the March Liberating Voices Academy block. There you will find this inspirational, insightful presentation by Peg Grafwallner.
Terrific TitlesWe are looking forward to welcoming Keynoter, Juana Martinez-Neal, as we kick off the Young Voices Festival: Changing the World One Voice at a Time. It is fitting that she address parents, students, and educators. Juana Martinez-Neal is an award winning author/illustrator and was selected for weeks 1-4 in Pernille Ripp's Global Read Aloud. She has many terrific titles to enjoy! Amongst those are: Alma and How She Got Her Name, La Princesa and the Pea, La Madre Goose: Nursery Rhymes for los Niños, Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story, and Swashby and the Sea.
