Poetry at Raising Our Voices: October Voices for Justice

Poet Janet Wong will share a wide variety of poems that make us feel more joyful and alive, while also touching on topics across the curriculum, from science and math to social studies and language arts instruction. WSRA is happy to announce that Books & Company of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin has stocked the Read the Way WSRA titles and more! Be ready for the Young Voices Virtual Field Trips with books by Phil Bildner, Ralph Fletcher, Juana Martinez-Neal, Mitali Perkins, Deanna Singh, Janet Wong! Books & Company is also featuring books by Baptiste Paul and Liza Wiemer. 

Liza Wiemer, (author of The Assignment) and Baptiste Paul, (author of various picture books including Adventures to School, I Am Farmer, and The Field) are presenting "Upstanders: Helping Students Speak Up Against Injustice And Hate" in WSRA's October Voices for Justice Academy. The Voices for Justice Academy is the first of nine Monthly Academies for WSRA's virtual conference, "Raising Our Voices: Empowering All Learners Today to Change the World Tomorrow".

We are looking forward to welcoming Keynoter, Juana Martinez-Neal, as we kick off the Young Voices Festival: Changing the World One Voice at a Time. It is fitting that she address parents, students, and educators. Juana Martinez-Neal is an award winning author/illustrator and was selected for weeks 1-4 in Pernille Ripp's Global Read Aloud. She has many terrific titles to enjoy! Amongst those are:   Alma and How She Got Her Name,  La Princesa and the Pea,  La Madre Goose: Nursery Rhymes for los Niños,  Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story, and Swashby and the Sea. Please join us in getting these important Read the Way WSRA books into the hearts and hands of students, families, and communities.
